Aloha and thank you for your interest in competing in the 2020 Hawai’i Barista & Brewers Cup Competitions
Please take a few minutes to review the information below about the competitions and conditions of entry.
Competitors are welcome to register for one or both competitions. If you would like to compete in both, you will need to complete two separate registrations, one for each competition.
When & Where?
This year’s competitions will be held on July 30th - August 1st at the Ala Moana Hotel - Honolulu, O’ahu, Hawai’i. Our events will be held in the Carnation Room.

Who can compete?
We welcome and encourage all people aged 18 years or older to participate, regardless of their color, cultural background, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation, religion or spirituality, or any other identity
Registration will be limited to 20 Barista Competitors and 16 Brewers Cup Competitors for a total of 36 competition slots
The registration fee is $40 per competition and registrations will be accepted on a first come first served basis
Competitors do not need to be residents of Hawai`i to participate, but they must hold a valid U.S. Passport or have 24 months of documented employment or scholastic curriculum in the United States of America
Registration & Fees
The fee for each Competitor registration is $40. If a Competitor would like to compete in both competitions, two registration forms must be submitted with two fees of $40 each, or $80 total. Your registration covers entry to the Hawai’i Barista & Brewers Cup Competition and a snack bar service for both days of the event. Because the Competitions are happening in conjunction with the Hawai’i Coffee Association’s Annual Conference, all registered Competitors will have access to the on-site Conference lectures & workshops. Conference meals, however, are not included and must be paid for separately if Competitors would like to attend. Equipment, Wares, & Coffee
As an event Host, we are providing all coffee, wares and equipment! Competitors may bring their own wares and grinder, if you would like. However, these will be provided by the Host and available for you to use. Below, you will find lists of equipment provided for each competition.
The Host will provide competitors with a choice of 2 or more coffees for Service.
Competitors will select 1 of these coffees to brew and present to the judges during Service or competitors may select 2 or more coffees to blend together.
Coffee for use in the competition will be provided by 2 or more different companies.
*Competitors may not select a coffee from their own roaster/wholesaler. If a Competitor’s current employer is one of the coffee providers for the event, then that Competitor must select one of the other provided coffees*
Prior to the start of competition, the Host will conduct a blind coffee selection tasting for Competitors to choose coffee(s) for Service. Basic information about the coffees (origin, processing method) will be provided to the Competitors after they have selected their coffee(s)
Competitors must use one of the 2 or more provided compulsory coffees
Competition wares and brewing devices will be provided, but Competitors may utilize any set of brewing devices or wares of their choosing, as long as they qualify according to the rules.
