SigBev Barista Competition

Aloha and welcome to HCA's first Signature Beverage competition event, hosted at HiCO Cafe on Friday, May 20th at 6:30pm.

This is going to be a more casual-style competition without a formal presentation requirement, but we do have judges! All registered participants are required to use locally-grown coffee from any region across the islands. Participants will provide judges with information on the coffee they're using, the ingredients and recipe for their SigBev, and explain why they chose to create this beverage. Other questions to consider:

Why did you choose this coffee?

What was your inspiration in creating this SigBev?

Are any of your other ingredients locally-sourced and produced?

When presenting your beverages to the judges, please present it as intended to be served in a full-service bar; use the drinkware of your choice (glasses, ceramics, etc) and keep the visual of beverage-building in mind!

After your beverage presentation to the judges, you will be asked to make samples of your SigBev available to all spectators/attendees throughout the evening - 4-ounce paper cups will be provided.

Equipment that will be available to competitors, if needed:

• 1 x Rancilio Classe 7 2-group espresso machine
  
• 1 x Mazzer Major V Electronic grinder
  
• 1 x Mazzer Super Jolly Electronic grinder
  
• Ice machine
• If needed, additional espresso equipment may be made available including another espresso machine and espresso grinder:
• • 1 x Linea Mini espresso machine
  • Malkonig E65S espresso grinder
• Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment, but please let us know what you plan to bring ahead of time via the registration form so we can ensure necessary power sources are available.

Due to the generosity of several companies, we are able to contribute a stipend of $30 to $50 to each registered competitor to help cover the cost of your materials and ingredients! Additionally, if you don't have access to local coffee, we have a couple of local roasters who have offered to provide coffee to a competitor in need.

We will raffle off swag and other prizes throughout the night, so bring some cash to enter the drawings!
